More saxophones, strange and unusual instruments in the Museum
My very first saxophone was a Grafton. After hearing Ornette Coleman on the radio I decided then and there to become a saxophone player. By complete coincidence the next day I just happened to notice a plastic saxophone for sale in a local music shop. It was a beaten up Grafton for £12 10s 0d. I begged my mum for the money to but it and she gave it to me, on condition I gave up smoking.
I taught myself, and for the next six months I thought I could play like Ornette. I then spent the next thirty years or so realising I can't.
