Video Overview of Beginners Instruction DVD:
This should give you a good idea of what you will get when you buy the DVD for beginners. This is from the acclaimed Jools Holland Music Makers series and was described by Phill Straker of sax.co.uk as “The best one out there”
Reed Not playing well after a few minutes?
We look at one of the most basic reasons why a saxophone reed could be not performing well and how to fix it.
Adderley Trill Parts 1 & 2
A very popular effect on the saxophone. This technique was used extensively by Cannonball Adderley, but can be heard in the playing of many jazz and blues saxophone players from Earl Bostic to Junior Walker and beyond.
Low Bb to B Trill
This is a trill that is impossible in most cases without knowing this nifty little trick.
Focussed Practice
How to get the most out of your practice sessions.
Note Bending
Another very useful technique for jazz and blues. A side effect of this exercise is it also teaches you to get a firm grasp on your vibrato, which can sound bad unless you have control of both speed and depth.
Warmup
My favourite warmup routine. Gets my fingers and brain working first thing in the morning and is also useful at helping you get a grip on how chords, chord changes and progressions work.
