Beautiful 1946-7 (?) Selmer Super Action (SBA) alto, recently overhauled. The serial number seems to be slightly earlier than some charts show for SBA, so may even be the very first one. But is definitely an SBA having offset right hand stack and removable bell.
I presume this is a vintage relacquer, very nice kind of honey colour. New chocolate roo pads.
The SBA was introduced as a follow on to the balanced action. It has a neck designed to be slightly brighter and the more comfortable offset right hand stack keys. Apparently some of these made during or just after WWII had black key touches instead of mother of pearl. This one has a black G# key touch, the rest are normal white MOP. On this one the removable bell has been soldered on, some people prefer that and I decided to keep it that way when I had it overhauled, but is easily reversible if you want.
This example has the typical dark but not stuffy SBA sound with just a touch of sparkle. A very highly sought after instrument.
