“Anyone, like myself, who constantly complains that jazz has become too uniform, too abstract, too self-regarding, should spend time listening to Pete Thomas. He is a walking hard-blowing contradiction of all those complaints, a saxophonist who can whisper like Ben Webster and wail like Earl Bostic, a writer who is as adept at generating excitement as at creating atmosphere. He is, what else, Big!”
– Laurie Taylor
